PI - Planetary Industry

Standard disclaimer: if you recognize it from somewhere else it is likely from somewhere else. I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable about Planetary Industry and this is just for my lazy tendencies to put the information I want in one location.

TLDR:

  1. Decide on what your end products are
  2. Determine what planets are available and any corporation / alliance / coalition rules apply to the system you are wanting to use
  3. Obtain an Epithal - EVE University Wiki and Planetary Command Centers
  4. Fly Ship and Command Centers to system you are setting up in
  5. Set Up your Planetary Industry

Picking the PI to Make

There are a few ways you can decide on what to make for your PI; do you need it for building things, does someone (corporation, etc) need it, and what are your skills. Once you know what you can sell and about what it will sell for go to Alysii's PI Scheme (hanns.io) and see what the path for making the item is. After you know what needs to be harvested from the planet(s) to make what you are wanting to make fill out the spread sheet. The spread sheet will tell you at a glance what command center purchase options you need to consider.

Where to Set Up

Now that you know what you are building it is time to figure out where. Check for any rules you might need to follow on what systems you are allowed to set up in. Then check for what planets are available for you to use.  My preference is to have all the PI for a particular item in 1 system. Something such as Robotics I will likely use up to 5 planets, so having the needed planets in 1 system is my preference. If you are going to be using multiple systems you might want to consider multiple Epithals and shuttling between the systems at least until you have a full hold of PI to sell.

Before you purchase your equipment, take a trip out to the system you are wanting to set up in and check the planets for the resources they are providing and in what concentration

Setting Up

After purchasing the Planetary Command Centers and Epithal;lid has gfbr fly to the system you are going to set up. Now it is time to actually set up your PI. There are a few different setup styles, but I like to just group the structures together as closely as I can.

Set Up Tips:

  1. Use a Storage Facility and route all outputs to it. Sometimes things glitch and will cause you to loose a cycle of production unless you have your outputs going to the storage facility.
  2. Pull you P1 from a planet, but have your P2 or higher produced on another. This will increase your potential output by reducing the power/cpu requirements. Currently I have 4 P2 and 1 P3 in production on 1 planet with room to make more.
  3. Make your P2 planet an "off planet." Or a planet that will not be used to harvest the resources you need to make your end product.
  4. Typically you need a 2 to 1 ratio for buildings; 2 P1 to make 1 P2.
  5. Check your output amounts to determine if you are maximizing your structure usage. In game each structure has an amount that is output and the amount it needs for input. Also, the in-game info window can give you more insight on the input and output of a particular item.

Vocabulary:

  • PI - Planetary Industry (previously called Planetary Interaction or Planetary Production (PP)), is a type of Industry that allows pilots to create industrial colonies on just about any planet in the EVE universe. The aim of this is producing goods from raw materials extracted from the planet.
  • P1 (P2, P3, etc.) is designating how many processing steps needed to make the product. P1 is an item that the resource has been turned into something else.
    • P4 is made from P3 inputs.
    • P3 is made from P2 inputs.
    • P2 is made from P1 inputs.
  • Resource - is the raw material that is obtained through using an extractor unit on the planet that is turned directly into P1
